Professor Andrew Hrymak of the University of Western Ontario visited China

From May 3 to May 5, 2018, professor Andrew Hrymak, academician of the Canadian academy of engineering and dean of the college of engineering at the University of Western Ontario, visited Nanjing science and technology commission, Beijing science and technology commission, Nanjing Technology University, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Southeast University and Guo-lian automobile power battery research institute to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

Visit government agencies
On May 3, 2018, professor Andrew Hrymak , Ms Lisa, chief executive of Worldiscoveries of UWO, Mr. Ling Ting, managing director of Worldiscoveries Asia and Mr. Yang Hailei, business development director of Worldiscoveries Asia visited Nanjing science and technology commission. Mr. Zhou Wenhai, director of the municipal science and technology commission, Mr. Fu Jian, Ms Chen Cheng from Nanjing S & T commission met with them. At the meeting, professor Hrymak introduced the advantageous disciplines of the college of engineering, and director Zhou also introduced the industrial development of Nanjing in relevant fields. Both sides expressed and stressed that they would transform the disciplinary advantages into innovative industries, and strive to achieve mutual benefits and mutual benefits between the University of Western Ontario and the city of London and the city of Nanjing. At the same time, professor Hrymak said that the university attached great importance to the application of Nanjing municipal government’s No.1 document related policy program, and hoped that the science and technology commission can put forward more valuable suggestions on the joint establishment of R & D institutions.
On May 4, 2018, professor Andrew Hrymak and his delegation visited the Beijing municipal commission of science and technology (BSTC) to learn about relevant supporting policies of the Beijing municipal commission of science and technology on overseas R & D centers, and to explore opportunities for cooperation between the university’s research achievements and Beijing enterprises. The science and technology commission of Beijing had introduced the items that can be declared by universities one by one. The Beijing science and technology commission proposed that the university technology transfer center could set up an office in Beijing, and the science and technology commission also proposed that the university composite material related technology could conduct in-depth cooperation and exchange with the China new energy vehicle technology center.

Visit universities in Nanjing
Professor Andrew Hrymak and his delegation visited Nanjing Technology University, Southeast University and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications on May 3.
At the meeting with Nanjing Technology University, four deans from college of chemical engineering, college of mechanical engineering, college of civil engineering, college of electrical engineering and minister from scientific research department introduced the colleges one by one. Professor Hrymak introduced basic information of engineering college. The two sides agreed that the two universities had a high degree of discipline compatibility in the field of engineering, and would focus on promoting scientific research, teacher-student exchanges and other cooperation, as well as exploring the possibility of cooperation with other colleges.
At the meeting with Southeast University, the two sides introduced to each other the general situation of the university and its affiliated technology transfer institutions, and indicated that they could further explore cooperation opportunities in the fields of biomedical engineering materials, metal composite materials and civil engineering materials. The two sides also shared experience in technology transfer.
At the meeting with Nanjing University of posts and telecommunications, professor Hrymak introduced the basic situation of the college of engineering and proposed the idea of jointly applying for the research center project funded by No.1 document of Nanjing municipal government with Nanjing partners. The two sides reached a preliminary consensus to explore the possibility of cooperation in the Internet of things.

Visit the enterprises
On May 5, 2018, in order to deepen the cooperation and exchanges between the University of Western Ontario and Chinese enterprises, professor Hrymak and his delegation visited Guolian automobile power battery research institute co., LTD. President Xiong, President Lu and President Wang extended warm welcome to professor Hrymak and his delegation.The two sides introduced their respective situations and emphatically discussed the next cooperation plan. After the meeting, accompanied by several leaders of Guolian, professor Hrymak and his delegation also visited the Guolian power battery production workshop.

In 2012-14 he served as president of the International Society of Coatings Science and Technology (ISCST). He is currently deputy director of the Fraunhofer center for composite materials research at the University of Western Ontario. He serves on the scholarship selection committee and is chairman of the board of directors of the Canadian institute of chemistry.
