WD Asia team participated in the Project Signing Ceremony of Chongqing-Medical-University-Circle Innovation Ecosystem & International Advanced Medical Technology Innovation Summit

In order to promote the connection between innovative resources and market of universities and introduce the world innovative medical project, on April 10th, the Project Signing Ceremony of Chongqing-Medical-University-Circle Innovation Ecosystem & International Advanced Medical Technology Innovation Summit was held in Chongqing. WD Asia Nanjing team participated in this event at the invitation of the Canadian consulate in Chongqing and brought two excellent Canadian medical projects-“A Novel Solution for Control of Bleeding”, “Personalized cancer treatment selection device”. Sun Hongyu, senior development manager of the Nanjing office, gave a roadshow speech on these two projects.

From May 3 to May 5, 2018, professor Andrew Hrymak, academician of the Canadian academy of engineering and dean of the college of engineering at the University of Western Ontario, visited Nanjing science and technology commission, Beijing science and technology commission, Nanjing Technology University, Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Southeast University and Guo-lian automobile power battery research institute to explore opportunities for bilateral cooperation.

The Canadian medical technology exchange meeting was successfully held in Beijing station

In order to promote China-Canada medical technology cooperation and promote the effective transformation of excellent medical achievements in Canada, “Canada medical project exchange meeting(Beijing station)” was successfully held in Beijing Beiguang Building workshop 761 on September 14, 2018.The activity was hosted by Worldiscoveries Asia from the university of western Ontario, Beijing ICI, Northern technology exchange market, undertaken by 761 workshop (Beijing) science and technology development co., LTD, co-organized by TGN, Beijing maker space and Beijing Ontario S&T innovation cooperation center.
As the annual special activity of Worldiscoveries Asia, WD Asia invited 6 representatives from Canadian innovative enterprises, universities and research institutes to conduct the project roadshow, involving tumor therapy, biological agents, medical imaging, medical supplies and other medical fields. The activity attracted more than 50 representatives from the investment community, medical industry, research institutions and other domestic units.

The global impact of WORLDiscoveries ­– a technology-transfer centre based at Western – has a new success story to tell, this time in the partnerships forged with Canadian and Asian business interests.

WORLDiscoveries Asia began in 2009 as a gateway between Asia and small- and medium-sized Canadian businesses wanting to commercialize their high-tech science innovations abroad. In April 2017, the Ontario Ministry of Research, Innovation and Science chose Western, through WORLDiscoveries, to launch a one-year program to help Ontario research institutes and enterprises explore opportunities in the Asian market for technology-based partnerships.

Western University signed an Agreement with Xiamen Bioway Biotech Co., Ltd for creation of a joint venture

In early 2011, the Western University (Western) and Xiamen Bioway Biotech Co., Ltd reached a cooperation agreement on “Small Molecules, Peptide, and Nucleotide Therapeutics for Promoting Nerve Regeneration Following Neurotrauma”. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a personally catastrophic event that often results in disability and lifelong institutional care requirements. This technology uses small molecules, peptide, and nucleotide to promote nerve regeneration following neurotrauma. It is expected the said technology can repair damages in the spectrum of central nervous system disorders including Traumatic Brain Injury, stroke, and response to neurodegenerative disease.

The opening ceremony of China technology transfer centre of Western University, Canada and project signing ceremony was held on April 26, 2012 Dr. Janice Deakin (Vice President and Provost of Western) signed an Intellectual Property Agreement which is “Small Cyclic Peptide Therapeutics with Anti-Microbial and Pro-healing Properties” with Professor Hua Zichun (the director of The State Key Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology).

On April 26th, 2012, “the Opening Ceremony of China Technology Transfer Centre of The University of Western Ontario, Canada and Project Signing Ceremony” was held in Nanjing New-Town Sci-Tech Park. At the ceremony an Intellectual Property Agreement, “MicroRNA as a Therapeutic Agent in Diabetic Retinopathy and Other Diabetic Complications”, was signed between the Western University (Western) and Kunshan RNAi Institute Co., Ltd.

Western University’s technology transfer office – WORLDiscoveries (WD) is the leading university technology transfer institution in Canada. Since November 2009, WD has kept close connection and frequent communication with Jiangsu Technology Office and its subsidiary, the provincial international technology transfer office, and subsequently established strong partnership in areas of technology innovation, collaborative research, technology transfer and related fields. To further strengthen the connection between UWO’s advanced technologyresearch and local industry’s need for innovative technologies, and to facilitate the transfer of UWO’s technologies to Jiangsu province, WD decided to setup Western’s Chinese technology transfer office in Nanjing.
